I'd like everyone's opinion on this...

I think that she's been murdered-- Aruba isn't a big place, and if she was alive, they more than likely would've found her by now. As cliche as it sounds, every day that passes, the less likely it is that she'll be found alive, if at all.

As for the suspects, I think they know what really happened. If they didn't do it, they know the person that did. Seems like the Aruban government has been handling things with kid gloves because one of the suspects is the son of a prominent citizen.

The sad part of the whole situation is that people everywhere disappear or are murdered every day, and nobody seems to give a shit...

Though, awhile ago, just before or after the 1 year anniversary of her dissappearance, a girl Named Cecial Zhang's remains were found here in TO.... so ya never know.

i don't think they will ever find her... i also agree that it's their governments fault that things are the way they are.

Wasn't one of the suspect's father or uncle a judge? I read somewhere that the judge told the boy exactly how to handle the situation which leaves no chance for a conviction.

A better story is the man who disappeared off the cruise ship during his honeymoon. Makes me not want to travel international waters let me tell you! All kinds of shit happens out there that we don't know about.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Sadly I'd say that should read definitely white. Seriously, when was the last time you saw a high profile fuss made about any missing girl/woman that wasn't white? It's few and far between.

And for the record, I think it is repugnant when talking about a (probable) murder to say anyone "had it coming" (which, btw, is the same thing as saying they "deserved it" IMO) just because they were partying/having sex while on vacation. Can making bad choices put someone in a position where they are more likely to be victimized? Obviously. But that should never mean they "had it coming".

I hope for her family's sake she is found. Justice would be nice, but at the very least being able to bring her home and bury her. [img]graemlins/rose.gif[/img]

"Had it coming" is nothing like "deserved it".

"Had it coming" means she was acting in a way that most people would realize would lead to trouble.

"Deserved it" means she was a bad person and deserved to die. Which is obviously not true.

I did an informal survey last night and asked 10 people if they considered the phrases interchangeable/synonymous. I just asked in general, and did not give them any specific context. 8 of them said YES, they are interchangeable/synonymous. 1 said "not really", and 1 said "it would depend on the context" - so I'm obviously not the only one who interprets them that way.

But, more importantly, Answers.com (as taken from The American Heritage? Dictionary of Idioms) defines had it coming as to "deserve what one receives". [img]wink.gif[/img]

I agree with Snape. Either statement is a judgement that none of us mortals should make. In the end, we all deserve to die. Does anyone deserve to live forever?
